Scanning the Horizon: An Immersive Archive Part I-III
    Benjamin Busch

“We may never touch queerness, but we can feel it as the warm illumination of a horizon imbued with potentiality.” —José Esteban Muñoz, Cruising Utopia

Scanning the Horizon: Queer Spaces Berlin aims to create a digital archive of selected queer spaces in Berlin. It currently hosts ten spaces that were digitally captured by Benjamin Busch using an architectural LiDAR scanner and then made accessible online. The spatial portraits are expanded through interviews with the space operators, allowing the locations to speak for themselves and tell their own story. Audio transcripts are available in English and German. The project sees itself more as a listening practice. In it, the cold and ostensibly neutral gaze of the scanner is complemented by the warm data of the interview.

Scanning the Horizon premiered alongside a panel discussion with representatives from the spaces at the Schwules Museum in Berlin on December 9, 2021.

    Saturday, May 3, 2025 – 17:00–21:00

    Open Studios at Künstlerhaus Bethanien

We’re creating a sober experience for not only those who lead a sober lifestyle or the sober curious but to all of our community for a chance to bathe in the wonders of Lunchbox Candy without consuming alcohol or any other substances. An opportunity to connect with yourself and others, naturally. To kick off the evening on the Candy Flip floor the amazing Phoenix Chase-Meares will facilitate a movement workshop ‘How To Access The Non Fearful Body’ followed by Alvin Collantes lifting our spirits higher with ‘A Dose Of Pleasure’. Participation is optional but highly recommended but please remember spaces are limited. On The Box Floor we will have music all night long with Djs Adam Munnings, Ketia, Kim Swim and Anita Drink to keep you moving and grooving. A fire lineup of inspiring hosts / performers curated by Nancy Nutter will be sure to blow your mind and keep you entertained, gooped and gagged. Expect the unexpected, after all it’s Lunchbox Candy. Our Love Room will be open for cuties who love to cruise hosted by Lesbo Pro (House Of Steel). It’s a space for all bodies, genders and sexual orientations. Let’s celebrate sexuality without the chems. Sip a mocktail, snack on some fresh fruit and trust yourself and the process cause all we’re consuming is a damn good time. Join us October 10th at Aeden Berlin for Lunchbox Candy – Sugar Free, a sober experience open to all. Doors open at 7:30pm.

07 September 2024 – Mad Kate – My Fear of Pretending – Loftas Festival, Vilnius

“my fear of pretending” at Loftas Festival Vilnius

“My Fear of Pretending” is a deeply personal and political performance that blends original music, poetry, and physicality to explore the fluidity and multiplicity of queer identities in relation to labour, the performance of identity and authenticity and the use(full)/(less)ness of performativity. By examining the queer self as an evolving process of self-making and empowerment rather than a fixed identity, the performance traverses the intimate landscape of sexuality and extends these concepts to the socio-political realm, encompassing the body as nation and community. Mad Kate, a producer, poet, and musician, weaves her field recordings with the everyday practices of her sexuality, creating sonic tapestries that resonate with the queerness of her lived experience as sex worker, as queer feminist performer, as a parent, as an activist.
