Mad Kate | The Tide Announces New Album Stage and Bedroom – A Fiercely Political, Queer, and Punk Exploration of Labor, Sexuality, War, and Power
Berlin, Germany, 2025 – Mad Kate | The Tide proudly announces the forthcoming release of their bold new album, Stage and Bedroom—an unapologetically queer-feminist, sex-positive work that confronts the politics of labor, sexuality, power, and war. The album is a sonic reflection on how the personal and political are deeply intertwined, exploring how the intimate routines we create in the bedroom—the micro-politics of our relationships—ripple out onto the larger stage of the world. It draws parallels between the ways we manage our own erotic and laboring bodies and how borders, boundaries, and geopolitical divisions are enforced at a global scale, questioning the systems that regulate both personal and collective autonomy.
A central theme of Stage and Bedroom is its critique of the military-industrial complex and the structures of direct and systemic violence that shape our world. The album challenges listeners to recognize complicity in these systems and asks how micro-level interactions—such as the ways we navigate consent, power, and boundaries in our personal lives—can serve as models for broader societal transformation.
Musically, Stage and Bedroom continues Mad Kate | The Tide’s signature fusion of genres, showcasing the talents of **Jacopo Bertacco (The Tide) on guitar and *Sara Neidorf on drums*. Tracks like *“No Other Side”* erupt with deep rage, delivering a dark and intense protest punk anthem, while “The Real Me” channels a biting, sarcastic Berlin cabaret as it plays with the performance of identity. “Stage and Bedroom”, along with “Shaking Realization” and “Generate Content”, serves punk rock straight up and hard-hitting.
For the first time, Mad Kate prominently features her texts as spoken word rather than sung, bringing to the forefront autobiographical stories of working in and with the body as a sex worker, performer and activist. Tracks like “Switchblade”, “It’s Not About Bodies Anymore”, and “Vulnerable Bodies aka I Got Paid for It” interrogate the complex intersections of work, sexuality, and selfhood.
Yet, Stage and Bedroom also offers moments of softness. “This Is the Hand” is a folk-rock ballad honoring the unseen laborers who produce the material goods and care work that sustain us. Meanwhile, “Annihilation” blends country rock with a meditation on survival, resilience, and the emotional toll of working within a capitalist system.
After a hiatus since the pandemic, Mad Kate | The Tide is returning to the stage with full force. Known for their dynamic, movement-driven performances, the band is an unmissable force live, combining music, dance, and immersive theatricality. With Mad Kate’s background as a dancer touring with Peaches, Bonaparte, and HYENAZ, their performances are both thought-provoking and physically charged, transforming the stage into a space for radical expression. The release of Stage and Bedroom marks not just a highly anticipated album but the long-awaited return of a band that thrives in live performance—bringing audiences to sweat, move, and engage.
